As the summer sun beats down, my thoughts drift back to the memorable winter outings with the EOiD gang.


Moti Mahal Delux stands as a cornerstone in Delhi's culinary legacy. Established shortly after independence in 1947, it prides itself on introducing iconic recipes such as tandoori chicken and butter chicken, alongside Burra kababs. The restaurant offers a unique blend of highbrow and lowbrow experiences. Welcoming you is a valet who skillfully maneuvers your car onto the sidewalk for parking. Inside, a lavish courtyard awaits, furnished with plastic chairs. Despite the slightly discordant ghazal singing in the background — ranging from Himesh Reshammiya tunes to Ghalib's poetry — the atmosphere is vibrant.


Our culinary adventure spared no indulgence, catering to both vegetarians and carnivores alike. From Paneer Shashlik and Bharwaan Aloo to Reshami Kabaab and Butter Chicken, each dish was a delight. Personally, the butter chicken surpassed all expectations. A subsequent visit uncovered more gems from the menu, including the Kalmi Kabaab and Khasta Roti. It's safe to say that any choice from the menu is a winner.

Notably, this Moti Mahal appears to be the original establishment, with potential family splits leading to the proliferation of other branches. While some may lack a direct genetic connection, they still thrive under the brand name. Whether these offshoots maintain the culinary standards of the original remains debatable. Nevertheless, the original Moti Mahal earns a resounding recommendation. I've even had the pleasure of introducing foreign friends to its charms, hoping they overlook the eccentric music selection.


In summary, Moti Mahal Delux offers an unforgettable dining experience, blending tradition with flavor, making it a must-visit destination in Delhi's culinary landscape.
